Art & Oppression: Artist's Statement

Three of us drove from Santa Fe to the Standing Rock Reservation in early November, 2016. We took camp supplies and a pickup truck load of firewood to the Oceti Sakowin camp, of the Seven Council Fires, to support the effort to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline from crossing sacred ground of the Sioux.

We gained far more than we gave, coming away with experiencing the profound connection to earth and spirit evident in the people and their prayers. It is a fight for the planet and all of us and must be continued. To be defeated is not an option, however long the struggle takes and in whatever form it manifests
