The End of Film began in 2015 during an ongoing archive project. With digital taking over most of my work, I was determined to print something in my darkroom. I sifted lovingly through my black-and-white negatives, unable to decide what to print. I started looking at the film leaders, the beginning of the rolls where you pull out the strip to load a 35mm camera. Experimenting with these negative strips yielded a series of celluloid “landscapes.” Recently, while working on another project that also required sifting through my archives, I started scanning color negatives. The resulting prints are abstracts composed of vibrant colors, like what you might see in a sunset.
