Digital Cage

Digital Cage explores the way in which mass surveillance and digital language influence the creation of techno-personalities, like a form of evolution.

Combining hand-sculpted and computer-generated elements to map biometric points on the subject’s face as a way to mimic facial recognition software, each portrait reveals the person's susceptibility to and culpability in their own surveillance.

The portrait sessions are collaborative. We begin with a conversation about the issue, followed by the subject jotting down on paper any thoughts they may have. Their cage is then constructed based on our conversation, their written notes, and their choices of colors. Each subject receives two portraits, the digital cage portrait and the notes portrait.
